On December 21, 2007 VCI filed a joint regulatory application with the Energy Resources Conservation Board and Alberta Environment for the development of a pilot project on Terre de Grace to extract and upgrade bitumen. The pilot project is designed to extract up to 10,000 barrels per day of bitumen, producing approximately 8,400 barrels per day of upgraded product over 25 years.
The pilot project will include a central processing facility that will initially be fed by up to 16 SAGD well pairs. VCI estimates that less than 65 well pairs will be required over the entire life of the pilot project. This facility will include steam boilers, VCI’s proprietary upgrading technology, water treatment, storage and other support and administration facilities.
